Exam Pattern : HPPSC Jobs 2024

Scheme of Examination:

  1. Preliminary Examination:
    • Consists of two objective type papers (multiple choice questions) in General Studies and Aptitude Test.
    • Total marks: 400.
    • Acts as a screening test only.
    • Marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not counted for final merit ranking.
    • Approximately 20 times the total vacancies’ number are admitted to the Main Examination.
    • Only candidates declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination can proceed to the Main Examination.
    • Aptitude Test (Paper-II) is a qualifying paper with a minimum qualifying mark of 33%.
    • Marks in Paper-II are not considered for merit; merit is based solely on marks obtained in Paper-I.
    • Candidates scoring zero or negative marks in General Studies (Paper-I) are not considered qualified.
    • Negative Marking: One-third of the marks assigned to a question are deducted for each wrong answer.
      • Multiple answers to a question or leaving a question blank incurs the same penalty.
    • Duration: Two hours each for Papers I and II.

Syllabus for Preliminary Examination:

Paper-I (General Studies)200 marks, 100 objective type questions– History, Geography, Political, Art & Culture, and Socio-Economic Development of Himachal Pradesh. – Current events of National and International importance. – History of India and Indian National movement. – Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world. – Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights issues, etc. – Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc. – General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization. – General Science.
Paper-II (Aptitude Test)200 marks, 100 objective type questions– Comprehension. – Interpersonal skills including communication skills. – Logical reasoning and analytical ability. – Decision making and problem solving. – General mental ability. – Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc. – Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level). – English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

Note: Candidates must appear in both papers of the Preliminary Examinations to be considered for merit. Failure to appear in either paper will result in disqualification.

Main Examination:

  1. The main examination consists of compulsory subjects and one optional subject.
  2. Candidates must specify their desired Optional Subject in the application form.
  3. Changes to the Optional Subject can be made before the last date for payment of examination fee.
  4. Optional Paper can be answered in English or Hindi as per the candidate’s choice.
  5. Minimum qualifying marks:
    • At least 40% marks in each compulsory paper of Hindi and English.
    • 45% marks in the aggregate (excluding compulsory papers of Hindi & English).
  6. Candidates called for interview/personality test should not exceed three times the number of vacancies.
  7. In case of a tie in minimum qualifying marks, all candidates with equal marks will be called for interview.
  8. Final ranking is determined by marks obtained in the main examination (written part and interview/personality test).
  9. Allocation of services/posts is based on the candidate’s rank and preference expressed.
