Exam Pattern : Odisha High Court Jobs 2024

The Recruitment Examination for the post of Assistant Section Officer consists of four stages: Preliminary Examination/Test, Main Written Examination, Computer Application Test, and Viva-Voce Test. Here are the details:

(A) Preliminary Examination/Test – 150 marks (2 hours duration)

  • Subjects: General English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude.
  • Format: 150 Objective Type Questions with Multiple Choice Answers.
  • Negative Marking: 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Qualifying:
    • 33% marks for SC/ST candidates.
    • 40% marks for other categories.
  • Cut-off Mark: Court’s discretion based on vacancies and qualified candidates.

(B) Main Written Examination: 300 marks (5 hours duration)

  • English: 100 marks, 2 hours (Essay, Précis writing, Translation, Retranslation, and Grammar).
  • Mathematics: 100 marks, 2 hours (Arithmetic, Algebra, Mensuration, Statistics, & Probability).
  • General Awareness & Test of Reasoning: 100 marks, 1 hour (Current Affairs, National/International Events, Major Financial/Economic news, Budget & Five-year plans, Books & Authors, Awards & Honours, Abbreviations, Important Days, Who’s Who, Sports, General Science, International & National Organizations, History, Geography, Politics, Civics, and Culture).
  • Qualification:
    • English Paper (Qualifying Nature):
      • SC/ST: 33% marks.
      • Others: 45% marks.
    • Aggregate in Mathematics and General Awareness & Test of Reasoning:
      • SC/ST: 40% (minimum 30% in each paper).
      • Others: 45% (minimum 33% in each paper).

(C) Computer Application Test: 100 Marks (1 hour duration)

  • Components:
    • Theory: 50 marks, 30 minutes.
    • Skill Test: 50 marks, 30 minutes.
  • Subjects: Computer Fundamentals, Windows (MS-Windows), MS Office (Word, Excel & Power Point), Linux Fundamental and Open Office Application, Usage of Internet Operation, Communication Technology, Networking Concepts (LAN, Ethernet, Broadband, Wireless), and Digital Signature.
  • Qualifying 50% of total marks.
  • Note: Marks not included in the Final Merit List.

(D) Viva-Voce Test: 40 Marks

  • Qualification: Minimum 40% of marks.
  • Final Merit List:
    • Marks from Main Written Examination + Viva-Voce Test.
    • In case of a tie:
      • Higher marks in Main Written Examination.
      • Older age if marks are still equal.
  • Chief Justice’s Discretion: May reduce qualifying marks if necessary.
